Jackson Ice Skate Size Charts & Sizing Advice

Looking at investing in a pair of Jackon Ultima ice skates but not sure where to start with sizing? We’ve got you.

Here’s everything you need to know about finding the right size and style of Jackson ice skate for you.

Of course, these are only general guidelines and won’t be accurate for every skater — we highly recommend popping into our store so that our expert skate technicians can accurately measure your foot and chat with you about your skill level and goals.

Are Jackson Ice Skates A Good Brand?

Jackson is a brilliant brand that is widely recognised for its commitment to producing top-tier ice skates.

The brand caters to a broad spectrum of skaters, from novices to world champions, ensuring that each pair delivers the necessary support and longevity that you need for where you’re at on your skating journey.

How To Measure For Your Jackson Ice Skates

Investing in a new pair of ice skates is a big deal, so it can feel a little overwhelming to make sure that you order the right size! We’ve broken down exactly what you need to do to find the right size of Jackson ice skates for you below.

If you want to take all the guesswork out of it and get an expert recommendation based on your skating ability and unique foot size and shape, visit us in-store and chat with one of our experienced skate technicians.

To measure your feet accurately at home for your new Jackson ice skates, you’ll need your skating socks, two blank A4 pieces of paper, a pencil, a ruler, and a friend who doesn’t mind getting too close to your feet.

  • Pull on the socks you intend to use while you’re skating to make sure the measurements you take will match your actual skating conditions.
  • Place two blank sheets of paper on the floor, and then stand upright on them, evenly distributing your weight between both feet.
  • Ask your helper to mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe and at the very back of your heel. They’ll need to hold the pencil vertically to capture the most accurate measurement.
  • Repeat for the other foot.
  • Step off the paper and measure the distance between your toe mark and your heel mark on both papers with a ruler.
  • Don’t worry if the measurements aren’t the same; it’s actually more common for one foot to be slightly larger than the other! Just make sure you use the larger measurement to determine your skate size.

Remember, skates are meant to fit more snugly than regular shoes. This snugness provides stability and precision while on ice, so don’t worry if your skate size is slightly different to your standard shoe size.

Finding The Right Jackson Skate Size For Junior Ice Skaters

To accommodate growing feet, you can purchase skates that are half a size bigger than their current fit, but don’t go overboard — skates that are way too large can actually impact skating ability and will be uncomfortable over time.

For optimal fitting and advice, come and chat with us at Willies. With our expertise and experience, we can assess your foot structure, discuss your skating aspirations, and pair you with Jackson skates that provide the best fit and appropriate stiffness for your ability level.

Jackson Ice Skate Blades Sizing

Once you’ve figured out the right boot size, the next thing to look at with your new Jackson ice skates is the blade size.

Do Beginner Ice Skaters Need To Worry About Blade Size?

Generally, if you’re taking your first steps on the ice or learning basic moves, you don’t need to think about tweaking your blade size. Most beginner skates come with pre-attached blades and are the perfect size for the boot, so as long as your foot fits your boot, you’ll be fine!

This is because when you’re starting out, the main goal is to start feeling comfortable on the ice and developing your balance and basic technique. At this point, the nuanced differences in blade length and profile won’t make any difference to you.

The size and profile of your ice skate blades start to become more important when you progress onto more advanced elements like jumps, spins and combinations that might require specific blade lengths and toe picks.

You may also find as your skating skill develops, that you prefer a certain size or type of blade or if you want to get that next level of customisation with a particular boot and blade combo.

So Why Is Blade Size Important?

When you reach the level where your blade size matters, it’s crucial to find the right blade for you.

Your blades will impact everything from:

  • Your balance and weight distribution
  • Your agility and stability
  • Your speed and smoothness
  • The position of your toe pick

The size of your boot’s sole determines the size of the blades that you need on your ice skate.

Jackson ice skates are designed with two distinct soles: the LCF sole, crafted from a combination of leather and carbon fibre, and the Fusion sole, a lightweight, torque-resistant nylon composite that's waterproof. The Fusion sole also incorporates a rubber inlay, ensuring optimal shock absorption during performance.

It’s important to know which sole your ice skate has, as this will impact the blade you need on your Jackson ice skate.

What Jackson Ice Skate Should I Buy?

First and foremost, you need to choose an ice skate that fits you perfectly — which means no pain and the right amount of ankle support for your skill level.

Will Jackson Ice Skates Fit My Feet?

Before even diving into the different models of Jackson ice skates available, you need to make sure that Jackson’s typical fit profile is a good match for your foot shape.

Ice skate manufacturers will create their ice skates using something called a ‘last’, which is what they model the boot shape around. Each manufacturer will have a slightly different last, so they will better suit different foot shapes.

The trick is to find the manufacturer that produces ice skates with the closest last to your foot shape.

The last that Jackson uses for their ice skates tend to have a wide and rounded toe box, complemented by a narrow heel. They are crafted to provide a snug grip, especially around the Achilles tendon, thanks to the extra padding in the heel area.

These boots are especially suited for individuals with a particular foot shape. If your toes are of similar length, or if they gradually decrease in length from the big toe, Jackson might be an excellent fit for you. Commonly referred to as the Roman, Square, or Irregular foot shape, these feet typically have a medium to high arch and a medium to narrow heel.

If that sounds like you, Jackson ice skates could be an excellent choice. If you want to take the guesswork out of it and try on a range of different ice skate brands, visit us in-store and chat with our ice skate technicians, who can match you up with the perfect brand, model and size of ice skate for you.

What Stiffness Rating Do I Need For My Ice Skates?

One common mistake many beginners make is getting swayed by what professional competitors wear. Remember, a skate's stiffness is directly related to the kind of moves and jumps a skater will be performing.

While stiff boots are designed to support high-intensity jumps like triples and quadruples, they aren’t suitable for beginners — they will be too stiff, so you’ll be hobbling around the rink while you’re trying to learn the basics. If you're just starting out, softer and more flexible boots will be more comfortable and appropriate for your skill level.
