While danglers aren’t required in senior leagues, they’re mandatory in junior ice hockey and are an excellent bit of kit for adding extra protection to your throat area. They can be attached to your mask to either sit loosely underneath it or act as an extension of your mask, whichever you prefer.
Danglers are considered consumable, as they are designed to break instead of shatter when they’re struck. If you’re choosing between a dangler or a neck guard, we recommend going for a padded neck guard, although going for both is the best option from a safety perspective.
When you’re ready to replace that bent cage on your goalie mask, the first thing you’ll need to do is make sure you get the right cage to fit your mask. Cages aren’t standardised, so you’ll need to pick up your new cage from the same brand or even the same model as your mask. Need help with this? Chat with our team to make sure you get the right replacement cage for your goalie mask. unscrew the hinge clips from the front of your mask with a Phillips screwdriver.
First, you’ll need to unscrew the hinge clips from the front of our mask, then remove the old screw clips from either side of your mask and replace them with the new ones from your new cage.
Slide the new hinge clips into place in the top centre of your new cage to line up with the holes on your mask and screw them into place.
Once your hinge clips are on, test your new cage to ensure it can extend 90° outward and that it fits under the J clips on each side of your mask.
If you need help or advice on replacing the cage on your goalie mask (or you want someone to do it for you!), get in touch with us or pop into store at Willies Coventry.
