  • WHAT DO FIGURE SKATERS WEAR FOR COMPETITION?

    In a figure skating competition, it’s all about the overall look, and how it compliments your programs. 

     

    Female figure skaters usually wear a dress or leotard with a skirt made of either lycra, net fabric or velvet. The super-comfy 4-way stretch means you can perform all your elements completely unrestricted. Competitors will also wear a pair of figure skating tights for insulation and protection while out on the ice.

     

    Male figure skaters will usually wear a bodyshirt and pants combo. Competitive male figure skaters are not permitted to wear tights, so pants with four-way lycra stretch are a great option to ensure maximum range of movement while keeping to the dress code.

  • CAN I WEAR LEOTARDS / DRESSES FOR FIGURE SKATING PRACTICE?

    While nothing is stopping you from wearing your competition dresses or leotards to practice, you might find that it’s a bit cold when you’re talking to your coach or taking a break!

     

    Most ice skaters also won’t wear their competition outfits to practice to reduce the risk of ruining them before their competition.

     

    However, some skaters prefer to practice in a dress, giving them a more authentic feel for movement on the day. If this is you, think about investing in one or two good-quality practice dresses/leotards. This means that you’ll keep your competition outfits in top nick, and you can also opt for thicker material to keep you warmer during your patch ice and coaching sessions.
